Sponsored placements and position bidding

A Sponsored placement moves your offer into a labelled position in the list when you win a per-click auction; it can never jump far ahead of a cheaper offer.

What you bid

• An amount per click on top of your normal rate, between 5 and 30 fils.
• For a whole category (and everything below it) or for one product. A product bid beats a category bid, and a narrower category beats the one above it.
• Bids are set in the Sponsored tab. Only the store owner can change them; staff can see them.

Who can take part

Stores billed per click, with an active account, a positive balance and links that are not paused. Only offers that are in stock take part.

How the auction works

For each list of offers we score every bid:

• score = bid × quality
• quality = (the cheapest total ÷ your total, at most 1) × (your store rating ÷ five stars)

Your store rating is your rating from verified reviews once you have 5 of them, otherwise your external rating, otherwise 3.

The highest score wins the position, under these rules:

• There is at most one Sponsored row in each block of 5 rows.
• Your offer can move ahead of a cheaper offer only when your total is at most 10% higher. If it is more, you do not take that position, whatever you bid.
• The Cheapest badge and the price at the top of the page always belong to the lowest total.

What you pay

You pay just enough to beat the next bidder, never more than your bid, and at least 5 fils even when nobody else bids. That amount is added to the normal rate of each valid click from the Sponsored position. We run the auction again when the shopper clicks: if your offer was not the winner at that moment, the click is charged as a normal click.

Labelling

Every Sponsored row carries the label "Sponsored" in English and "إعلان" in Arabic. The label cannot be removed, renamed or made smaller, and the price shown is your normal price.

Measuring it

The Reports tab splits your valid clicks into Sponsored and organic, with the average bid you paid (reading your reports).
